Jenny Hernandez, who joined the Hollister district in 2010, has been named the principal of Hollister Elementary School starting July 1.
The promotion of Hernandez is part of a series of leadership changes in the Taney County district, which was prompted by the retirement of superintendent Brian Wilson and communications director Kim Connell.
Hernandez will succeed Mark Waugh, who will take over Connell's duties and step into a revamped role, the executive director of community relations and student services.
"Dr. Hernandez is a passionate and highly skilled educator who truly embodies the heart of Hollister. She is committed to fostering a learning environment where students, teachers, and families can thrive," said Waugh, who worked closely with Hernandez and expressed confidence in her leadership.
"I am thrilled to see her take on this new role and look forward to seeing the great things she will accomplish."
Hernandez is an award-winning educator with experience in the classroom and leadership roles. She has taught three grades -- second, third and fifth -- and served as a math instructional coach.
Hollister Elementary's assistant principal, Bryan Werner, expressed his enthusiasm about the transition.
"I've had the privilege of working alongside Dr. Hernandez, and I am excited to continue our partnership in this new capacity," Werner said in a news release. "Her passion for education and her vision for our school's growth are truly inspiring."
Hernandez achieved National Board Certification, one of the most prestigious stamps of approval for an educator, and holds certification as an elementary math specialist, a math recovery specialist and an eMINTS educator. The eMINTS training includes "best practices" for integrating technology into teaching.
"Hollister has been a place where I've been supported, challenged, and inspired. I am deeply honored to step into the role of principal and build on the strong foundation of this incredible community," she said in the release. "Together, we will ensure our school remains a place where all students, staff, and families can grow, shine, and take pride in being part of the Hollister family."
Hernandez currently serves as president of the Missouri Council of Supervisors of Mathematics and the Hollister NEA, a chapter of the National Education Association.
She was been named the Teacher of the Month by the Hollister school board and earned an Outstanding Instructional Leadership award from Learning Forward Missouri.
Sean Woods, assistant superintendent of operations, will succeed Wilson as superintendent. He praised the promotion.
"Dr. Hernandez is an outstanding leader who brings a deep understanding of our district's culture, values, and goals," Woods said in the release. "Her dedication to student success and teacher support makes her the perfect fit to lead Hollister Elementary into the future."
