On behalf of Make Art Tehachapi and the Tehachapi Valley Arts Association, the city of Tehachapi invites the community to events unveiling several murals around downtown Tehachapi, each showcasing integral pieces of the city's history.
Events are set for June 4, 5 and 19, as follows:
Wednesday, June 4 at 8:45 a.m.: Unveiling of the additions made to and restoration of the Monolith Mural. This mural depicts the long-standing impact of the cement plant on Tehachapi. The Monolith Mural is located on the side of The Village Collective near the intersection of F and Green streets.
Thursday, June 5 at noon: Ribbon-cutting for the Loop Mural in Railroad Park. The re-creation of Tehachapi's first mural -- originally painted on the former Ace Hardware building -- has been reproduced on metal by Tehachapi Signs and will be installed on the side of the Chamber of Commerce building, 209 E. Tehachapi Blvd.
Thursday, June 19 at 4 p.m.: Unveiling of the restored People of the Mountain mural, which depicts the Nuwä people, the earliest known inhabitants of the Tehachapi mountains. The ceremony will feature Kawaiisu drummers, a traditional Kawaiisu blessing, and a historical presentation about the mural's significance. The People of the Mountain mural is located on the side of the Tehachapi Hitching Post Theater at 201 S. Green St.
