ELKHART -- The Interurban Trolley Green Line Northwest Loop has implemented a small service change between Holiday Village and the former Martin's on the Northwest Side of Elkhart. This service change is effective Monday, Dec. 2.
This service change is being done to provide more reliable Green Line service reducing the number of conflicts between Interurban Trolleys and school buses, according to the Michiana Area Council of Governments. The change will also expand transit service to a new corridor along C.R. 10, including a new bus stop on C.R. 10 outside Bonnell Aluminum and the Elkhart Career Center Annex.
Buses will continue to deviate off of Nappanee Street (S.R. 15) by turning left on California Road, right on C.R. 3 and will continue to enter Holiday Village by turning right.
The service change will take effect after buses stop at Holiday Village. Buses will now turn north (right) back onto C.R. 10, turn right onto John Weaver Parkway, continue straight across Bristol Street (S.R. 15) into the Shopping Plaza, and turn left along the driveway by the strip mall. Buses will now stop a new stop in front of Subway in the shopping plaza, resuming the current route by turning right onto Bristol Street, at the intersection across from Thornton Street as buses currently do.
Passengers who currently board the bus along California Road and C.R. 3, including outside the Four Seasons Manufactured Home Community, and the Town and Country and Avalon West Apartments will now need to cross to the opposite side of CR 3 or California Road for a bus stopping up to 5 minutes earlier.
Passengers who currently board the bus outside the former Martin's off a Nappanee and Bristol Streets will need to walk north along the shopping plaza to a new bus stop in front of the Subway Restaurant.
As with all Interurban Trolley Routes, the Green Line will continue to operate on a hybrid flag stop system with both posted bus stop signs and a flag stop system where passengers can flag the bus down on the far side of any intersection.
