Women reach out a hand and a hammer

The third annual Crow River Habitat for Humanity Women Build will take place July 10 to 12 in Hutchinson.

This year, the women will paint a home as a fundraiser to kick off the new program, "A Brush with Kindness."

The program will help low-income homeowners repair and maintain the exterior of their homes to restore the homeowner's pride in their home and protect their financial investment.

The mission of the Women Build program is to get women interested in building and teach them the skills they need for building while advocating for good, affordable housing in McLeod County.

"I think it's just a great opportunity to get women together and work on a project," said Pam Johnson, volunteer coordinator.

Johnson is expecting around 40 women to participate in the program this year.

The Crow River Habitat for Humanity is asking each participant for a $10 donation, which will go toward the building of the 2015 home.

McLeod County businesses donated prizes that will be given away daily and each participant will receive a "swag bag." Lunch, beverages and snacks will be provided for the participants.

The event is sponsored by Genesis Salon and Lillian's in Hutchinson and The Prairie Gift Shop in Lester Prairie.

Thursday morning Health Source Chiropractic will give free care massages on site and Crow River Nutrition will provide shakes for evening shift.

Friday, Buffalo Wild Wings is providing lunch for the participants.

"It's just a really fun thing for women to do together," Johnson said. "You meet new people and you're all kind of working on the same thing."

For more information about how to get involved, stop at the Habitat office, 218 Main St. S., Suite 116, or call Pam Johnson at 320-587-8868.
