19-year-old writes and directs play to benefit the homeless

In an effort to raise funds for her local ministry, 19-year-old Grace Jaeger wrote "Revolutionize," a play based on the Culper Spy Ring, an American espionage group active during the Revolutionary War. After five months of preparation, the play will debut April 26-28 at The Upper Room at the Hub of Jordan.

Jaeger developed the idea after she was moved by the loving culture of Breakthrough Ministry while volunteering to serve dinner to the homeless one evening. As a result, Jaeger decided to do something to benefit the ministry. Being a student of history and theater, Jaeger naturally combined the two subjects and wrote her script in three weeks. Jaeger is producing and directing the play with a cast made up of fourteen kids ranging ages 6-15.

The subject of "Revolutionize" is the Culper Spy Ring, which was formed in 1777 by patriots from New York City and Long Island during the British occupation of the city. General Washington and Colonel Benjamin Tallmadge recruited a group of ordinary citizens to gather and relay information about the British's plans from New York City to Washington's camp. Jaeger was inspired by the story of seemingly ordinary people doing extraordinary things. The underlying message of the play is all people are valuable and that God gives everyone a chance no matter who they are.

Showtimes are 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on April 26-27 and 4 p.m. April 28. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at www.revolutionize.brownpapertickets.com.
