It's finally June, and some familiar favorites and new activities are on the calendar.
This week, watch for the kickoff of the Tehachapi Farmers Market and the Tehachapi Cancer Foundation's Screw Cancer fundraiser.
From 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 16, the city of Tehachapi will celebrate the first anniversary of Valley Park with a sidewalk chalk art day to kick off the first day of summer break (chalk will be provided, along with free refreshments). Watch for more information.
Also coming up -- date not certain -- a "Concert in the Park" at Railroad Park to coincide with new lights installed in the trees.
Farmers Market
The city of Tehachapi has released a list of vendors and entertainers for this year's Farmers Market. Held downtown along Green Street and in Centennial Plaza, the event is set for 4 to 7 p.m. each Thursday from June 5 to Aug. 14.
Fresh, farm-to-table produce, artisanal goods, live music and more will be available.

Screw Cancer-6 fundraiser
This is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Tehachapi Cancer Foundation. The event will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at Dorner Family Vineyard, 18274 Old Ranch Road (south side of Cummings Valley).
The event is free, but dinner tickets are $35, in advance. Purchase tickets at Country Real Estate, 107 E. Tehachapi Blvd. Be sure to bring a fat wallet for the live and silent auction, opportunity drawing and more. All money collected stays in the 93561 ZIP code to help people and families dealing with cancer-related issues. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
Stallion Springs car show on June 14
The first annual Horsepower Havoc Car Show will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, in Stallion Springs.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Stallion Springs Police Department.
Live music will be provided by Zephyr Saints. Prizes include best in show, best classic, best restoration and most likely to be condemned.

July 4
The city of Tehachapi's All-American Fourth of July Festival is a family-friendly event held at Philip Marx Central Park. Other organizations involved include Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Park District, Tehachapi Valley Arts Association and Tehachapi Warriors Booster Club.
The day's activities begin with the All-American 5K at 7 a.m., Ed Grimes Memorial Pancake Breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. and Maker's Market (arts and craft show) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food trucks will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Kids Parade is at 11:30 a.m. and runs from City Hall to Central Park. Park activities will kick off with the Pledge of Allegiance and mayor's welcome at noon with live music continuing to 4 p.m.
The action then moves to the Tehachapi Rodeo Grounds and Event Center with Bad Bulls presented by Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association beginning at 5 p.m.
Aerial fireworks will be visible from the event center and many other areas in town. (Remember, no personal fireworks of any kind anywhere in the city or greater Tehachapi area.)
