How he got here

Having offered Jones last November, Nebraska played things slow until a busy summer in which it made him a priority on the recruiting trail.

Invited to campus for an official visit in late June, Jones committed to the Huskers less than two weeks afterwards.

Nebraska's plans to play Jones in the secondary also made an impact. Florida State targeted Jones as a wide receiver or tight end, while Kentucky and Louisville were evaluating him as a linebacker.

Late interest from Missouri, which brought Jones in for a November official visit, caused concern before Jones confirmed later in the month that he would not flip his commitment.

Our take

A standout athlete who could have played wide receiver if not defensive back, Jones is a player who Nebraska will look to find the best spot for, then develop heavily.

Having played safety, wide receiver, linebacker and even a handful snaps at quarterback at the high school level, Jones' understanding of the game is helped by that experience.

A playmaker no matter where he lines up, Jones will be a fit in the secondary given his explosiveness and all-around ability.

Whether at safety or another spot, Jones has the potential to become a long-term starter later in his college career.
