Unusual smell forces distance learning at John Marshall Middle School

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) -- A mystery smell at John Marshall Enterprise Middle School forces students to learn from home on Wednesday. Crews worked Wednesday morning to learn what was behind the odor.

Parents and students got this alert Tuesday night after school.

Out of an abundance of caution, all John Marshall Enterprise Middle School students will shift to distance learning for tomorrow - Wednesday, December 4.

It was due to an unusual smell coming from the school. A neighbor talked to News 4 off camera and said he's smelled something funny around the manholes near the school, but could never pinpoint where it was actually coming from.

One student said it's been an ongoing issue and his classrooms have evacuated more than once lately due to the smell.

"It happened for some days. We went outside and they asked us to take everything with us," said Jaden, a 7th grader at John Marshall Middle School.

On Wednesday morning, multiple Oklahoma City Public Schools trucks were at the school investigating the smell.

News 4 reached out to the district. We're waiting to hear back.
