JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WJAR) -- The massive crane ship attracting hundreds to Narragansett Bay this week -- has officially departed the Ocean State.
Dozens gathered along the shoreline for the highly anticipated departure of USCV Thialf.
The world's second-largest crane ship is headed to an offshore wind project off New York, projected to power more than 500-thousand homes.
Standing at a staggering 473 feet above sea level, passing cargo ships and sail boats are dwarfed by the giant steel vessel.
Some people are loving it, some people are pretty obstructed by the view. So we've been getting mixed emotions for sure.
Thialf was anchored in federal waters off the Rhode Island coast line-- as a spot to conduct safety checks and swap onboard crews-- the ship and its onboard cranes are now headed to Long Island for the wind-power project.
