Christmas came early for the Hamilton County Police Association Honor Guard, which unveiled a brand new van that will be used in services for fallen police officers and their families. The Honor Guard is an organization you never hope to need, but you're certainly glad they're there. They offer support to families during times of line-of-duty deaths and serious injuries."Unfortunately, my agency in Springfield Township, March 31st of 2023, tragedy struck," said Chris Niehaus, Chief of Police of the Springfield Township Police Department.Springfield Township Police Officer Tim Unwin was killed in the line of duty. "Honor Guard was instrumental for our agency," Niehaus said. "Not only as a resource, but for emotional support for our officers and for Officer Unwin's family."The Honor Guard is made up of officers from agencies around Hamilton County."We provide honors for officers that have fallen in the line of duty, active officers that may have passed away at home from a medical emergency and retired officers that served with distinction throughout their entire careers," said Michael Draise, Commander of the Hamilton County Police Association Honor Guard.They're continuing to drive that mission, thanks to a brand new van."What this what this new bus will do is it'll allow us better organization of our equipment when transporting to various events," Draise said.The bus will be used to transport officers and their families, as well as participate in funeral services.Eclipse Window Tinting provided their services for free. For owner Richard Puthoff, the cause hits close to home.In the last five years-- the honor guard has been deployed to over 100 funerals and 90 color guard ceremonies.
