Girls basketball roundup: Johnston and Klitzke lead Zillah to sixth straight win

NACHES -- A strong start spurred the Zillah girls basketball team to its sixth straight win on Saturday at Naches Valley.

Makenna Klitzke scored 12 of her team-high 15 points in the first half as the Leopards built a 16-point lead on their way to a 60-52 SCAC victory. Addison Johnson added 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Bella Valadez knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 13 points and Alaina Garza chipped in 10.

Zillah (5-0 SCAC, 6-1) has won six straight since an opening loss to perennial 2A trophy threat Prosser. The Leopards will continue their tough nonleague schedule on Friday in the Wilbur-Ellis SunDome Shootout when they face 2B fourth-place Brewster.

Naches Valley (3-2, 4-4) was paced by 20 points from Ellie Bost and 18 points, 15 rebounds and six assists from Maddy Jewett. The Rangers will face Colfax at West Valley (Spokane) on Friday.

Leyla Rodriguez had a game-high 20 points for Grandview, which led 13-6 before a 22-0 Bulldog run. Ellensburg (4-0, 6-0) will play Hermiston at Central Washington next Friday while Grandview (3-2, 5-3) will travel to Southridge next Friday.

Lauren Hatfield and Katie Strong joined Kneisler in double figures with 14 and 13 points each.

The Rams will stay in Oregon to play Sherwood (Ore.) on Sunday.
