Dog treats sold online, in 19 states recalled due to health risk

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Dog treats sold online and in 19 states have been recalled because of a possible salmonella health risk.

Carolina Prime Pet, Inc. has issued a recall for 400 bags of "Hollywood Feed Carolina Made Chicken Chips" dog treats. The recall affects 16-ounce bags marked with lot number 20051324L2 and an expiration date of November 13, 2025.

The company warned that salmonella can affect both animals and humans handling the contaminated products. Symptoms in humans may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. In rare cases, more severe conditions such as arterial infections and arthritis may occur. Pets may exhibit symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

The recalled treats were distributed to Hollywood Feed stores across several states -- including Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky -- and were also available online. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.

The contamination was identified by a third-party laboratory during testing of a related, unreleased lot. Consumers who purchased the affected product should stop using it immediately and contact Carolina Prime Pet for a refund or replacement. The company can be reached at [email protected] or 828-394-6460, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.
