WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) - Christmas is a time of giving, and spending time with friends and family. If you're running behind on what to get your loved ones for Christmas, downtown Wausau saw a flurry of those last-minute Christmas shoppers on Tuesday.

Downtown Wausau has a wide variety of selections to offer. Sure, you could get your loved one a video game or even a nice laptop, but, how about something a little bit more unique?

You know what they say, reading is good for the brain. At Janke Book Store, there is one genre catching people's eye this year.

"We're really strong into Wisconsin history, and I think that's been our strong suit this year," Janke Book Store Co-Owner Jane Janke Johnson said.

Janke says reading is a great hobby for everyone, no matter how old you are.

"I think, anytime you can get your kids off technology, parents and grandparents are happy. We're too, we're too tuned in," she said.

Everyone loves a new pair of shoes. H.T. Cobblery Owner Terry Koss says this is likely the last holiday season for the store, but two brands are turning into top sellers this season.

"We have some items, especially from Ugg and Birkenstock, The Boston Clogg, but there's a lot of Uggs, the Tasman, and the Taz," Koss said.

Uggs are so popular, one man drove over 100 miles to get his size. He called shoe stores across six different counties throughout the state. He says he prefers being at the stores over going online, no matter how far he has to drive.

"We've driven to Milwaukee, Appleton, Minneapolis, just take a trip, you know. It's something about that in person, yeah," Russell Torrez of Lac Du Flambeau said.

Whether you're buying a good book, or a new pair of kicks, downtown Wausau has plenty of options for your last-minute Christmas gifts.
