Many overlook Microsoft Clipchamp, assuming it's just another basic video editor. In reality, it's packed with great features. With a few simple tricks, you can unlock its full potential and take your video editing to the next level.
1 Choose the Right Aspect Ratio
When creating and editing videos, selecting the right aspect ratio is crucial to ensure your content looks great on the platform where you publish it. Social media platforms and websites each have their preferred aspect ratios for optimal viewing. For mobile-focused content, vertical ratios like 9:16 work best as they fit the phone screen perfectly. If you're targeting desktop users, a widescreen 16:9 format is ideal.
Clipchamp makes it easy to adjust the aspect ratio for your project, and you can change it at any time during editing. However, it's best to choose the right one from the start to avoid wasting time reformatting or cropping parts of your video.
2 Use Pre-Made Video Templates
With Clipchamp's wide selection of pre-made video templates, you don't always have to start a project from scratch. Whether you're creating a social media post, tutorial, or marketing video, these templates provide an excellent starting point with built-in designs, transitions, and text styles.
You can head to the Templates tab in the Clipchamp app to browse options by categories, such as YouTube, Instagram, gaming, birthdays, slideshows, and more. Once you've selected a template, you can make it uniquely yours by customizing colors, and fonts, and adding your own footage.
3 Dive Into the Content Library
Beyond templates, Microsoft Clipchamp offers a robust content library filled with stock footage, audio tracks, stickers, and more.
You can easily search for specific assets or browse curated categories to find the perfect match for your project. The best part? Many of these assets are free to use and don't require Clipchamp Premium.
Adding content from the library is seamless -- just drag and drop the asset you want to use from the Content library tab onto the timeline.
4 Use the Text-to-Speech Tool
Don't want to use your own voice for the video? No problem. Clipchamp's text-to-speech tool allows you to add professional narration without recording a single word.
You can choose from a variety of voices and accents in multiple languages. Whether you need a cheerful voice for a marketing clip or a calm, authoritative tone for a tutorial, there are plenty of options to choose from.
To get started, go to Record & create > Text to Speech, select your preferred language and voice, and type in your script. You can use the Advanced menu to adjust the pitch and speed of voice to your liking. Once the recording is ready, you can add it to the timeline to use it.
5 Automatically Generate Captions
Adding captions to your videos is essential for accessibility and engagement, and Clipchamp's automatic captioning feature makes this process effortless.
To add captions, click the CC button under your video, select the language spoken in your content, and hit the Transcribe media button. Once you do, Clipchamp will automatically generate captions in seconds.
You can then review and edit the captions for accuracy. You can even adjust the caption font, size, and position so that it matches your video's design.
6 Remove Silences and Pauses With a Click
Long pauses or silences can disrupt the flow of your videos. Thankfully, you don't have to do the hard work of cutting clips and removing silences manually. Clipchamp's Auto Cut feature can automatically scan your video and remove such parts.
Simply click the AI icon below your video, select Auto cut from the menu and Clipchamp will handle the rest. This feature is particularly useful for long tutorials, interviews, or any content where a clear and continuous delivery is crucial.
7 Record Your Screen and Webcam Simultaneously
While recording your Windows computer screen is easy, it may not always be enough. For tutorials, presentations, or reaction videos, you may need to record both your screen and webcam simultaneously. Clipchamp includes dual recording functionality for this purpose, which allows you to capture both your screen activity and facial expressions in one go.
To get started, navigate to Record & Create > Screen and Camera. Use the drop-down menus to select your preferred camera and microphone, then click the record icon to begin.
Additionally, you can enable the Speaker Coach option, which analyzes your speech and provides personalized feedback on things like pace, pitch, and filler words.
8 Use AI Creator
Clipchamp's AI Creator is one of my personal favorites. As you can probably guess from its name, it allows you to quickly create a video using your own media with the help of AI.
To use it, click the Create a Video with AI option and follow the prompts to add your media files, select a theme that matches your video, and set the desired aspect ratio. Clipchamp's AI will then handle the editing and produce a professional-quality video in minutes.
What's great about the AI Creator feature is that it not only simplifies the editing process but also allows for customization. So, if the final result doesn't live up to your expectations, you can easily edit the video to match your creative vision.
9 Use Keyboard Shortcuts
Like any good video editing app, Clipchamp supports a variety of keyboard shortcuts to help speed up the editing process. For example, you can select a clip and press S to split it, or use the left and right arrow keys to move the seeker backward and forward. Clipchamp also supports common shortcuts like Ctrl + C for copy, Ctrl + V for paste, and Ctrl + Z for undo.
You can quickly view the full list of keyboard shortcuts by clicking the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top left corner and selecting Keyboard shortcuts from the resulting menu.
