A Blue Ash Police officer was injured Saturday after a suspected impaired driver rear-ended his police cruiser on the Ronald Reagan Highway. The police officer was taken to the hospital and has since been released with minor injuries, said Captain Roger Pohlman, the Assistant Police Chief of the Blue Ash Police Department. The officer is recovering at home and is expected to return to work on Christmas Day. Officers arrested Anna Marie Wabnitz, 34, related to impaired driving for the incident involving the police cruiser. The officer was inside the parked cruiser with flashing lights on to alert drivers of a deadly head-on collision and road closure when the incident occurred. Just two hours earlier, a driver entered the Hunt Road off-ramp toward the wrong direction of traffic on the Ronald Reagan Highway and later struck another vehicle. Terri Lynn Hayes, 59, of Cincinnati, died in the crash. Hayes is suspected of driving impaired when she entered the wrong direction of traffic, Pohlman said. While impairment is a factor, police say Hayes may have also been suffering from a medical emergency related to diabetes. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. With the end of year holidays approaching, officials are warning about the dangers of impaired driving. They also say drivers should slow down and get over if they see flashing lights, signaling there is an emergency on the highway.
