Delivery van robbed at gunpoint in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Fairfield police say a delivery driver reported their van was stolen at gunpoint just before the holidays.

The incident happened near the 200 block of Woodrow Avenue not long before 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 21.

Police said the delivery driver was exiting their vehicle to deliver a package when an unknown person wearing a facemask entered through the open passenger-side door.

The driver told police that when they tried to confront the suspect, they were threatened at gunpoint. The suspect then drove away in the delivery van.

The driver did not report any injuries and was helped by nearby residents to contact police.

Police were able to use a tracking app to find the van, which was abandoned at the intersection of Gray Rock Road and Daves Lane. The driver's personal belongings were recovered, but police said several packages had been taken.
