SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 24, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) -- The Salt Lake City Police Department is reminding drivers to stay buzz free during the holiday season after making multiple DUI arrests since last Friday.
According to a Christmas Eve news release issued by the SLCPD PR Unit, "From 7 a.m. on Friday, December 20, through 7 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, officers with the SLCPD arrested eight people for driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUI)
"Of the eight arrests, seven drivers were impaired by alcohol, while one driver was determined to be under the influence of methamphetamine," the release said.
"In one case, an alleged impaired driver nearly crashed into an SLCPD SUV while driving the wrong way on State Street near Kensington Avenue.
"In another, a driver caused a crash that damaged two other cars."
In an effort to keep DUI drivers off the road, "the SLCPD's Motor Squad will increase their efforts for the remainder of the holiday season, actively looking for impaired drivers to help ensure road safety."
Those who plan on imbibing over Christmas and New Years "are urged to arrange for a ride from a sober driver or use a rideshare service, which is often relatively inexpensive and significantly cheaper than the financial and legal consequences of a DUI arrest."
