A familiar android causes trouble for some Marvel heroes on the next episode of What If...?
IGN released a new clip of season 3's fifth episode to its YouTube page, teasing White Vision engaging several heroes like Wong and Valkyrie in battle while Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) attempts to build a "totally theoretical weapon" for them in record time. Despite their best efforts, Vision makes quick work of the attackers before making his way to Riri, whose repulsor device malfunctions at the worst possible time as the android approaches her location.

Early synopsis reports for the upcoming What If...? episode teased an alternate universe where Eternals' Emergence happened, splitting apart the Earth and leading to conflict between an authoritarian regime under Quentin Beck's rule and a resistance movement seeking out Williams' help. This will be the second What If...? story calling back to Eternals after season 3's "What If...Agatha went to Hollywood?", which saw Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) recruit the Eternal Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani) to help her absorb the power of a Celestial inside the Earth to prevent its destruction.
Natasha Lyonne Voices Darcy Lewis and Howard the Duck's Daughter
Additionally, the fourth episode "What If...Howard the Duck got hitched?" -- a continuation of season 1's "What If... Thor Were an Only Child?" -- helped lay the groundwork for season 3's finale, revealing Natasha Lyonne's upcoming What If...? character Byrdie to be the grown-up child of Darcy Lewis and Howard the Duck. The character's abilities were briefly shown off alongside Captain Carter and Kahhori in What If...?'s trailers, which also foreshadowed them partnering up with a thunder goddess incarnation of X-Men's Storm.

In a recent interview, Marvel Studios' Brad Winderbaum explained the rationale for ending What If...? after three seasons, believing it coincides nicely with the growth of the Marvel Cinematic Unvierse multiverse since Phase 4. As he explained, "at the end of Season 2, when the Watcher takes Peggy to look out at the multiverse, it's taken the form of the tree of stories that Loki sits in the middle of at the end of Loki Season 2. So the culmination of Season 3 and of the series itself does fit in to the overall MCU tapestry in that way. That being said, there's infinite stories to tell with What If...?, and time will tell whether we make more. But for now it is, I think, a beautiful way to end this era and to culminate the story of the Watcher."
