A taxi veered onto a busy Manhattan sidewalk on Christmas Day, striking six pedestrians, including a 9-year-old boy, the New York Police Department said.
The collision occurred around 4 p.m. at 34th St. and 6th Ave., outside the flagship Macy's store at Herald Square. The 58-year-old man driving the taxi hit a 9-year-old boy and five women, ages 19 to 49, an NYPD spokesperson said.
Four people, including the driver, the child and two woman, 41 and 49, were taken to nearby hospitals in stable condition. The other victims refused medical attention.
The area where the crash occurred is a tourist hotspot, especially around the holidays. The Macy's store was prominently featured in the Christmas film "Miracle on 34th Street."
A spokesperson said it appears the driver suffered may have suffered a medical emergency, but that has not been confirmed in the investigation.
