Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine ordered flags lowered to half-staff to honor Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Officer Andrew Lansing, who was killed on Christmas Day.
American flags and the Ohio burgee will be lowered at public places in Ross County, state prison facilities and the Ohio Statehouse until sunset on the day of Lansing's funeral.
An inmate at Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe attacked Lansing in the early morning hours of Dec. 25, according to the state prison department.
The Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating Lansing's death. The inmate, who has not been identified, was moved to the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.
