Doctor says popular Christmas food can help prevent hangovers

In good news for people who love to feast on Christmas food, a doctor has revealed a popular snack could help prevent hangovers. Doctor Neena Chandrasekaran, an expert in pulmonary and critical care medicine, has divulged that indulging in cheese before sipping your festive bubbly might just be the trick.

Sharing her viral TikTok video, it has since racked up 2.5 million views, much to the joy of her 125,000 followers who tune in for her 'Things they don't tell you' series. Based in Florida, US, the 34-year-old medic advised: "If you are going for a night out on the town and you are going to drink alcohol, eating cheese before drinking alcohol can decrease your risk of having a hangover."

She further explained: "This is because cheese has a lot of protein, fat and complex carbs that can coat the stomach, which decreases the absorption of alcohol. Cheese can help the body metabolise alcohol better and prevent liver damage."

And that's not all - cheese is also a powerhouse of nutrients. "Cheese also replenishes nutrients because it is full of B vitamin and calcium - these specific nutrients are depleted from the body when drinking alcohol," she said.

"Calcium, which can be depleted through alcohol specifically helps to improve nerve and muscle function, and B vitamins are needed for energy and metabolism. Just remember, no alcohol is better than any alcohol. However, if you are going to drink, try to remember to try some cheese before alcohol."

The social media post in question, shared on What's The Jam, swiftly went viral with a flood of comments from excited followers. An intrigued user chimed in: "Cheese as a cure? Say less."
