Reports of 'man struck by van' in serious collision outside shop

A man was reportedly 'struck by a van' outside a shop in Sale on Monday night (December 23). Police and paramedics were called to the collision on Manor Avenue shortly before 8pm.

The victim was reportedly struck outside the Nisa store on Manor Road. Pictures from the scene showed the area taped off at the junction with Plymouth Road on Monday evening. Greater Manchester Police are yet to confirm details surrounding the incident.

Paramedics were also in attendance, including a rapid response vehicle and ambulance along with multiple police vehicles. The residential road was cordoned off between Carrington Lane

One witness told the M.E.N: "He was about to cross the road at the bus stop opposite the local Nisa shop. The van hit the guy and two ladies tried to help him. We heard someone scream.

"Drivers were impatiently beeping as paramedics were working on him. The driver was in shock when I saw them.

"It's horrible to see this outside your front window. A flood of blue lights, two hours later. The investigation people are there marking the road."

Residents saw officers from the GMPs Serious Collision Unit placing evidence markers in the road following the crash, with the road remaining closed for a number of hours, late into the evening.

Further details about the collision have not yet been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for a full statement.
