Summary

A Black Ops 2 datamine has revealed the canceled Zombies map "Five," surprising the community. Fans speculate the cancellation was due to Black Ops 3 technical upgrades rendering porting difficult. Players can access the map through a playable build, though it requires workarounds.

A new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 datamine has revealed the iconic Zombies map, Five, which was initially planned to be released as part of the fifth DLC. That DLC never saw the light of day and has been simply a rumor for years now, but this is by far the most substantial piece of evidence regarding its existence in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

It was never revealed why the expansion was canceled, but many believed that Activision didn't want the DLC to be released in the middle of the Call of Duty: Ghosts cycle. Recently, fans have been speculating that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 might get added to Xbox Game Pass, so this seems a perfect time for some interesting details to emerge about the game.

In a new video, Youtuber Riley541 reveals an exciting piece of information for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 fans. Apparently, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2's canceled DLC 5 featured the Zombies map, Five, from the Call of Duty: Black Ops 1. The video showcases the map in action, and from its appearance, the map seems to be quite complete.

Fans Speculate Why Five Was Planned for Release in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

This is quite notable, as the lack of Five in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies Chronicles was something that many hadn't expected, so its presence in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 is quite shocking for the community, to say the least. However, fans have come up with a theory as to why that was the case. Apparently, some believe that the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 engine was similar to its predecessor's, so adding the map was as easy as simply porting it to the game. On the other hand, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 had a huge upgrade from a technical standpoint, so it wouldn't be that straightforward to integrate the map into the new engine. While fans were disappointed about the map not being present, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 was still a massive commercial success for the franchise.

The good news is that fans can actually try out the map, as Riley541 released a playable build of the map. The only caveat is that the process is a bit complicated and requires players to use a few workarounds to get it working. There is a version without sound as well, which is somewhat easier to run. Five is one of the most popular Call of Duty maps out there, so many would be eager to try it out. The fact that there is a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Easter Egg which features a location from Five is a testament to the map's importance.
