HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) -- A man has been charged with drug trafficking after a police chase that happened on Christmas Eve.
Huntsville Police said that officers tried to stop a vehicle at Pratt Ave. and Washington St. just after 7 p.m.
Authorities said that the driver of the vehicle did not stop and a chase occurred. The vehicle eventually stopped near Pamela Dr., when the driver and the passenger got out of the vehicle and started to run away.
Both suspect were caught by officers after a brief chase on foot.
After searching the vehicle, officers found 31 grams of cocaine, 10 grams of methamphetamine, and several different types of prescription-controlled substances such as oxycodone, tramadol, hydrocodone, and promethazine.
HPD said that driver of the vehicle, Melvin Hayes, 29, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking, possession with Intent to distribute, four counts of possession of synthetic narcotics, and felony attempting to flee and elude.
