Halftime marked the highlight of Christmas Day at NRG Stadium.
The Houston Texans fell into a 17-2 halftime deficit in Wednesday's Christmas Day tilt against the Baltimore Ravens. The crowd at NRG Stadium appeared largely indifferent to the score as the second quarter closed, and given the circumstances, rightfully so.
Houston fans in the crowd were treated to a halftime performance by global music sensation Beyoncé, with the show simulcast across the globe on Netflix. Beyoncé, as usual, delivered. The Houston native performed a medely of songs off her Grammy-nominated album 'Cowboy Carter,' entering the field via horse as she performed the song '16 Carriages.' Four additional tracks were performed, and a litany of star-studded guests joined for the collection of songs. Pop artists Shaboozey and Post Malone received significant applause, though the greatest excitement arrived when Blue Ivy, Beyoncé's daughter, joined for a rendition of 'Texas Hold 'Em.'
The Texans didn't exactly meet the hype in their holiday showcase. Beyoncé certainly did, making Wednesday's game well worth the price of admission for Houston fans.
The crowd at NRG Stadium enjoyed a thrilling show Wednesday afternoon. The other superstar in the building couldn't say the same.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said Monday he planned to stay on the field for Beyoncé's performance, though he ultimately wasn't afforded the luxury, per a post-halftime report from sideline reporter Jamie Erdahl. Jackson stayed in the locker room during halftime, then followed Beyoncé with some fireworks of his own. Jackson unleashed a 48-yard touchdown run on Baltimore's first drive of the second half, a score that extended Baltimore's lead to 24-2.
Baltimore's offense looked ready for prime time Wednesday. The Texans are now back to the drawing board, increasingly behind the Ravens, Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills as the class of the AFC.
