Where Rachel Reeves can get help on the economy

Rachel Reeves claims that she does not see people putting forward alternatives to her measures to manage the economy (Report, 20 December). She ought to read the letters section in the Guardian. If I were prime minister, it would be the first thing I would read every morning.

Colchester

* As I read the correspondence on the prime minister's vision for Britain (Letters, 18 December), I was reminded of the quip by the former West German chancellor Helmut Schmidt: "Anyone who has visions should go to the doctor."

Steve Woods

Bristol

* Well done, Zoe Williams, for sticking to a trusted means of getting about (Can I survive for 24 hours without GPS navigation?, 21 December). I use an old A-Z and did not realise that the new ones no longer provide useful street detail. But it's OK to lose your way - getting lost is a fine opportunity for the hippocampus to get to work.

Ian Bingham

Surbiton, London

* Sad to hear of Eddie Stobart's death (Obituary, 18 December). Am I the only dad whose children were kept quiet on long journeys by them counting the number of Stobbies they saw compared with Nobbies belonging to Norbert Dentressangle?

Simon McIntyre

Sevenoaks, Kent

* I note that jelly is enjoying a culinary renaissance (Breaking the mould: jelly goes from children's favourite to star food, 21 December). Can evaporated milk be far behind?

Malcolm Woods
