Man faces felony hit-and-run charge in death of Hussain Farhat, an employee of Yaffo Towing
WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. -- A driver turned himself into authorities a day after a Chicago tow truck driver was killed in a Christmas Eve hit-and-run crash along a Wisconsin interstate, officials say.
Hussain Farhat, 40, was struck by a passing blue minivan shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday as he was working with a disabled vehicle along Interstate 94 at Sawyer Road in the Village of Summit, according to a statement from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. The blue minivan did not stop and continued eastbound on the interstate, exiting at County Highway C.
Farhat, an employee of Yaffo Towing of Chicago, passed away at Aurora Medical Center in Summit, Lt. Nicholas Wenzel said in a statement.
The sheriff's department reported receiving a tip on Wednesday about a possible suspect vehicle in the Village of Wales and were able to develop a suspect off of ownership records. That suspect, identified only as a 39-year-old man, later turned himself in and his vehicle was recovered from the residence.
The suspect was booked into the Waukesha County Jail. Authorities said they're seeking a charge against the driver of hit & run causing death, a Class D felony under Wisconsin State Statute.
