STONINGTON -- A person was seriously injured after an early morning crash in the area of Route 184 and 201, according to police.

Stonington Police Deputy Chief Todd Olson said that the single-car crash occurred at around 5:40 a.m. on Christmas morning.

Olson said that the driver was trapped and needed to be rescued by first responders. The driver was then airlifted to Hartford Hospital.

The passenger sustained minor injuries and refused transportation, Olson said.

Route 184 remains closed as of 9:20 a.m. as the Regional Accident Reconstruction team investigates the crash, Olson said.
