The Seattle Seahawks (8-7) are on life support in terms of their hopes of reaching the playoffs. It's either win the NFC West or miss out for a second season in a row and third time in four years. After tough losses against elite NFC North teams in the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers, they'll get a step down in competition on the road against the Chicago Bears (4-11), losers of nine straight and sans head coach Matt Eberflus.
We'll get an up-close look at rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, who hasn't thrown an interception throughout this losing streak, but the Bears offense has struggled to score points. A solid defense has seemingly collapsed since Eberflus' firing, so on paper this looks like a winnable matchup for the Seahawks. It's the Seattle Seahawks, nothing is as simple as it looks.
While the Seahawks were a dreadful 3-6 at home, they're 5-1 on the road with that one loss coming against the Detroit Lions. Geno Smith has only thrown two interceptions on the road compared to 13 at home. Perhaps that change of scenery is welcome to end the year after a brutal season at Lumen Field.
The Seahawks lost 25-24 in 2021 against the Bears at Lumen Field. It was Russell Wilson's final loss as Seahawks quarterback. Chicago defeated the Seahawks at Soldier Field back in 2018, winning 24-17 on Monday Night Football. Seattle's last win over the Bears was a 26-0 shutout in 2015 at Lumen Field.
The Seahawks are facing Week 17 playoff elimination even if they beat the Bears, but if they lose to the Bears then they are automatically out with a Los Angeles Rams win over the Arizona Cardinals. They'll need help regardless of the result on Thursday.
The Seahawks are a 3.5 point road favorites on FanDuel Sportsbook, with an over/under of 43.5 points.
