Pensacola Beach lifeguards schedule tryout

According to Escambia County officials, the tryout is set to take place at the University of West Florida Aquatic Center, located at 11000 University Parkway in Building 72.

LOCATION:

The county is asking applicants to arrive at least 15 minutes early.

To be considered for employment, applicants must be able to swim 550 yards in 10 minutes or less, able to run 1.5 miles on a track in 15 minutes or less, be at least 16 years old, and possess a valid driver's license.

Passing these tests in the allotted time along with meeting the other requirements will schedule applicants an interview, according to the county.

County officials said those who are selected to be hired will receive paid training. That training includes successfully passing 80 hours of open water training and emergency medical training.

A Pensacola Beach lifeguard's starting pay is $18.35 an hour, according to the county.
