The man killed in an officer-involved shooting Monday had a replica firearm, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Drew Patterson Banks, 41, of Decatur was killed after authorities say he led them on a chase.

The incident occurred when Priceville Police Department officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle that was reported stolen. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit ensued where multiple agencies responded to assist, including deputies with Morgan County Sheriff's Office.

The pursuit ended on Thompson Road at Byrd Road in Morgan County.

According to a statement from ALEA on Tuesday, during the course of the incident, Banks exited the vehicle with what appeared to be a handgun.

"Upon further investigation, it was determined that the firearm was a full-sized replica of a Sig Sauer 1911 semiautomatic handgun," according to the release.

On Monday, the sheriff's office said Banks fired at officers.

At least three officers fired at Banks. A Morgan County Sheriff's Office deputy and two Priceville Police officers are on leave during the investigation. This is standard practice during these types of probes.

Banks was fatally wounded and pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured

during the course of the incident.

Once complete, the findings of the investigation will be turned over to the Morgan County District Attorney's Office.
